The Grafton Morrish

The Grafton Morrish is the major trophy of the Public Schools Old Boys Golf Association (PSOBGA), and takes place each year over a weekend in September/October.

The format of the competition is amateur scratch foursomes for three pairs of former pupils of the school. There is a qualifying round in May/June, on one of seven courses to reduce the number of entrants – usually 105 / 115 – to the 48. These 48 qualifiers take part in the knock-out ‘Finals’ in September/October each year in Norfolk, with the golf being played at Hunstanton G.C. and Royal West Norfolk G.C. in Brancaster.

The ‘Finals’ weekend starts with a practice day on Thursday. The Grafton Morrish Trophy knock-out is played from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. The Solihull Salver, for three foursomes pairs on Saturday (stableford scoring), is for first and second round Trophy losers. The Committee Bowl, for four teams from the Solihull Salver, is played on a knock-out basis on Sunday.

Millfield have won the Grafton Morrish trophy once, back in 1974. In addition, we won the Solihull Salver in 2005 and 2006, and the Committee Bowl in 2005. After a gap of over 35 years, it is high time that we won the Grafton Morrish again, and so we would really like to hear from all OM golfers (2 handicap or lower) who would like to represent the OM Golfing Society in this event.
